March 5, 1954 - Pharsala, Thessaly, Greece - A wall crumbling and collapsing while a wooden stall in front unshaken and undamaged during the 1954 earthquake in Pharsala, Central Greece. 19 people were killed and many injured, and 20, 000 were made homeless in the earthquake which spread destruction over 1, 500 square miles of Thessaly in Central Greece. While 600, 000 people in the province were preparing for May Day festivities, more than 2, 000 houses were destroyed and another 1, 000 damaged. (Credit Image: © KEYSTONE Pictures USA)
