America's new 53,000-ton liner United States passed the Bishop Rock in a fierce gale at 6.16 a.m. today to win the Atlantic Blue Riband from the Queen Mary. She had made the Transatlantic crossing in 3 days, ten hours forty minutes, ten hours and two minutes faster than the record held by the Queen Mary. Her average speed was 35.59 knots, compared with the Queen Mary's record of 31.69. July 7, 1952.
