December 16, 2018 - Thousands of Palestinians gather for a rally in the centre of Gaza City to celebrate Hamas 31th anniversary on 16th December 2018. Head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, and Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, led the rally which was also attended by fighters from the al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing. Palestinian resistance group Hamas is one of the main Palestinian factions and was created during the First Palestinian Intifada (uprising) in 1987 in response to Israel's occupation of Gaza and the West Bank. The Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas has been governing the Gaza strip since June 2007, after winning in the 2006 Palestinian elections. In spite of its clear victory, Hamas has struggled to govern effectively as it has faced international condemnation, tensions with Fatah, and a strict air, sea, and land blockade imposed by Israel and supported by Egypt (Credit Image: © Ahmad Hasaballah/IMAGESLIVE via ZUMA Wire)
