He arrived in front of all of his competitors in the race across the Pacific, from San Francisco to the little Japanese island of Jogashima, which is about a hundred kilometers from Tokyo. It took him about 39 days on the ''Pen Duick V'' to make the 6,000 kilometer crossing. He is pictured holding his trophy in Tokyo.
