German (November) Revolution in Berlin, Germany, 1918. Street fighting - exterior of damaged building. In November 1918 Spartacist leader Karl Liebknecht declared the German Socialist Republic. In the following months, this led to a General Strike and Spartacist uprising. Liebknecht was murdered in the repression of the uprising. KL: German socialist and a co-founder with Rosa Luxemburg of the Spartacist League and the Communist Party of Germany, 13 August 1871 - 15 January 1919.
