Rochdale, Lancashire 15th January 2013. Wind turbines on Knowl Moor near Rochdale form part of the largest onshore wind farm in England having 26 turbines with a nameplate capacity of 65MW. Snow has fallen on the moor this week with more likely in coming days and an ongoing forecast of temperatures below freezing for at least a week ahead, yet the calm conditions means the turbines are not turning at all times and only revolving slowly at those times when they are working, suggesting the power output is below maximum at a time when it is most needed to meet the demand for electricity.
