Shali Fortress Western Desert EgyptMore information:
The ancient fortress of Siwa, built of natural rock salt, mud-brick and palm logs and known as the Shali Ghali, are built in the city of Siwa. The elders of the city forbade any resident living outside the walls of the town so as the population increased the only way to create more accomadation was to build upwards, with households adding a storey each generation. Kharsifs or dried mud and mineral pillars create wind towers.
