Joseph Richardson, a Cumberland (UK) stonemason demonstrating his musical Rock Harmonicon a stone xylophone made from slabs he had collected from the mountains around Skiddaw laid loosely on straw covered slats, and played using small wooden mallets, . (invented 1827). Some illustrations claim that the picture shows a music hall clown Arthur Nelson , though this is unlikely as Nelson didn't use the harmonicon in his act until 1842 and It is said that it took Richardson thirteen years to perfect the instrument , also by 1842, his three sons were also giving concerts around the country. RM2BP37BK–Joseph Richardson, a Cumberland (UK) stonemason demonstrating his musical Rock Harmonicon a stone xylophone made from slabs he had collected from the mountains around Skiddaw laid loosely on straw covered slats, and played using small wooden mallets, . (invented 1827). Some illustrations claim that the picture shows a music hall clown Arthur Nelson , though this is unlikely as Nelson didn't use the harmonicon in his act until 1842 and It is said that it took Richardson thirteen years to perfect the instrument , also by 1842, his three sons were also giving concerts around the country.
