Terracotta Panathenaic prize amphora. Culture: Greek, Attic. Dimensions: H. 25 in. (63.5 cm). Date: ca. 525-500 B.C.. Obverse, Athena Reverse, chariot race In addition to stylistic criteria, the device of a flying horse on Athena's shield suggests an attribution to the Kleophrades Painter. The motif seems particularly appropriate here because the artist conveys the speed of the chariot by the position of the horses who appear to be flying over the ground. The motif seems particularly appropriate here because the artist conveys the speed of the chariot by the position of the horses who appear to be flying over the ground.. Terracotta Panathenaic prize amphora. Greek, Attic. ca. 525–500 B.C.. Terracotta; black-figure. Archaic. Vases

The Triumph of Neptune and Amphitrite, 1630s. Neptune—the Roman god of water—and his wife, Amphitrite, ride a chariot pulled by sea horses. Water fowl and flying fish glide in the sky above them, while in the distance a group of nymphs beckon from a grotto. Neptune’s trident represents his power over water and storms; the fish, shells, coral, and pearls carried by his subjects show his wealth.
