A British 6 inch gun, operated by the Royal Garrison Artillery, is fired during the Battle of Albert, the key opening phase of the Battle of the Somme. The 6 inch gun was originally a naval gun, adapted for use by the army during World War I. It is seen here on a Mk II carriage.
