Godfrey de Bouillon (c. 1058–1100) was the duke of Lower Lorraine, leader of the First Crusade, and elected king of Jerusalem, which he helped capture, but took the title of "protector of the holy Sepulchre." His brother Baldwin succeeded him. This late 1800s illustration shows Godfrey with the Crusader banner heading into battle.
