Hasidic Jews, some in costume, some in traditional dress, walk through the streets of the Boro Park section of Brooklyn. Many of the hasidim in this area belong to the Satmir sect. Jewish people celebrate the holiday of Purim world-wide by wearing costumes, dancing, visiting friends and family and offering them gifts of food, collecting and/or giving charity, sharing a festive meal with loved ones, and going to synagogue for the reading of the Megilla, The Book of Esther, on which Purim is based. It is a joyous holiday.
