Pictured in the River Severn today are the stranded hulks of the two oil tanker barges involved in a collision in thick fog last night. One of the barges had previously struck the Severn Railway Bridge, causing considerable damage. The collision between the two boats caused an explosion the badly damaged both vessels. Five missing members of crew were being sought today. The tankers were the Wastdale (229 tons) and the Arkendale (231 tons), both owned by John Harker Limited of Bristol.
