1950, historical, post-WW2 and a newly erected statue of a famous military figure sitting on a horse set amongst the earth, rubble and old buildings in the square of Montreuil-sur-Mer, France. The statue honours WW1 military hero Field Marshal General Haig commander of the British armed forces in France from 1915-1918. A controversial figure, his war strategy of attrition led to enormous numbers of casualties of British troops at both the Somme in 1916 and Third Battle of Ypress in 1917, but by weakening the German army, it can be argued that they helped ultimately in their defeat in 1918.
