The picture shows players competing for the ball and the halfway terrace with partial grandstand covering, the North Terrace, packed with spectators. Designed by Archibald Leitch, 'the Den' was the home of Millwall FC for 83 years and was a hostile, intimidating venue for opposing teams. Badly damaged from the aerial bombing of WW2, it was rebuilt with the help of supporters and reopened in 1944.
