22 year old student Ann Warren climbed to the top of Rhodesia House, took down the rebel smith regime flag and replaced it with the Union Jack. At 5pm she took the Union Jack down and eventually came on to The Strand pavement for a press conference and a kiss from her boyfriend, Ian Middlehurst, who was one of the two men who spent a Sunday perched in the same position earlier in the month. Pictured, general view from street level showing Ann on the flag pole, 27th January 1969.
