The Canberra Centenary Trail opened in late October 2013. In the northern ACT it is possible to walk from Hall to Mulligans Flat along the trail tracing the northern ACT border for much of the time, although the entire trail is a lot longer than that 145km to be more precise. One of the most scenic spots along this part of the walk is the lookout at the top of One Tree Hill overlooking northern Gungahlin. Here you will find one of Canberra's fire watchtowers, a trig, a perfect cloudless blue sky (if you're lucky, I was on this day apparently) and a small viewing platform attached to a structure that looks like an entrance to a shelter, except there is no shelter behind it! Is this place still under construction, or did the ACT Government run out of money to build the shelter? Or is this meant to be a simple entrance gate? Who knows, but one could ponder over that sitting on a couple of sun exposed benches. Or you could just sit and enjoy a very nice view looking south instead.
