Marburg is a university town in Hessen located at the river Lahn. Town privileges were awarded in the 13th century. The university was founded in 1527 and it is the oldest protestant founded university in the world. Marburg is famous for ist castle, ist medieval churches and ist old town centre with many half timbered houses. The church was built in the 14. century by the Teutonic Knigths. It was built in honour of St. Elizabeth of Hungary (also known as St. , who as St. Elizabeth of Thuringia), who was Landgravin of Thuringia and spent the later days of her life as a widow on Marburg.
