The ridge above Meat Cove Brook can be reached after a relatively short but strenuous hike from the visitor's center on the east side of the bridge in Meat Cove. You'll climb 800 feet over a half mile or so, up through hardwood forest into pines and finally the upper meadows above the gorge. In the distance, the blue waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence are visible. These hills have no name on maps and only one, closer to the Gulf, is locally referred to as the Meat Cove Lookoff. The little fishing village of Meat Cove is the northernmost settlement on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. To visit, you must leave the blacktop road 8 miles from town to follow a winding graded dirt and gravel road through the wilderness into the village.
