The structure suffered major storm damage in 1990, and was closed to the public in 2008, A serious fire severely damaged the structure in 2010. Hastings Pier Charity oversaw a rebuilding project, with the pier reopening in 2016. The redeveloped pier (looking much different from this view) won the 2017 Stirling Prize for architecture. This image is from an old amateur 35mm colour transparency. It will look soft and grainy if used at too large a size – a vintage 1960s photograph.
