A Chamorro family member touches the names of family members, who served in the U.S. military during World War II, at National Historical Park, Asan Bay Overlook, Asan, Guam, Jan. 17, 2023. Within Asan Bay, supplies and equipment were loaded on vessels to support America’s island-hopping campaign toward the island of Japan where many service members died, in 1944. Today, the military presence in Guam plays an essential part in the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps’ 2030 Force Design’s goal of shifting the Marine Corps mission to the Indo-Pacific.
