The Chinese government on Thursday (29 November 2018) ordered a halt to work by a medical team involved in the editing of human genes, after a Chinese scientist announced that he had edited the genes of twin babies. Researcher He Jiankui said this week that he had altered the DNA of the twins to try to enable them to be resistant to infection with the AIDS virus.
