Asa poet he was much superior to his brother.In 1757 he was chosen poetry professor atOxford; m 1771 obtained the living ofKiddington ; in 17S1 that of Hill Farrance ;and in 1785 was appointed Camden pro-fessor of history and poet laureat. Hedied in 1790. His principal works are, Poems ; Observations on the Faery Queen ;and The History of English Poetry.
