A Kurdish woman from the "Mothers for Peace Group" seen giving a speech during the demonstration. On the 25th anniversary of the arrest of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state for 50 years, on 15 February 1999 in Kenya, marches and demonstrations are being held in cities in the Kurdish-populated region. The demonstrations, organised by the legal Kurdish party Democratic Regions Party (DBP) under the name "Freedom March", demand a democratic solution to the Kurdish problem and the freedom of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan. When hundreds of demonstrators were blockaded by the police, 5 deputies of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party staged a sit-in on the main street and blocked the traffic road. When the police blockade was lifted, the street was opened to traffic two hours later. At least 4 people were detained by the police during the incidents.
