More information:

A statue of Pierre Le Moyne D’Iberville stands in Fort Maurepas Park, July 1, 2021, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The statue, created by Canadian artist and sculptor Marlene Hinton Moore, features d’Iberville holding a type of smoking pipe called a calumet. Fort Maurepas Park commemorates the fort built by D’Iberville, who first colonized the area in 1699. The original fort burned down in the 1700s and was never reconstructed. The park was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 but has since been rebuilt to include the pavilion, a playground, a splash pad, and a fishing pier. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
