Hospital of St Cross, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandMore information:
The Hospital of St Cross is actually an almshouse - the oldest and largest in Britain, It still provides accommodation to 25 'brothers' as it has done since founded in the 12th century. The medieval complex, including gatehouses, church, original kitchens, hall and walled garden is open to the public and still provides 'dole' (a small cup of beer and bread) to any 'wayfarers' who request it.
