Kumbuka, a Western Lowland gorilla, in his enclosure during the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) annual stocktake of animals. Every January the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) performs a massive compulsory stocktake at London Zoo to log all data to the International Species Information System (ISIS). The count is required as part of London Zoo’s license; with the final data being shared with other zoos worldwide for managing the international breeding programmes for endangered animals. London Zoo is currently home to more than 800 species, and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) count and record every invertebrate, bird, fish, mammal, reptile, & amphibian.
