More information:

Sarnath is a located 10 miles from Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh, India. Whilst Varanasi is a Hindu Holy city on the banks of the Ganges full of urban grime, Sarnath is a Holy place for Buddhism with a great deal of green. There is a massive contrast between the two. Sarnath was a deer park where Guatama Buddha first taught the Dharma and there are daily pilgrimages from around the world to the site. Buddha taught here just over a month after his enlightenment, making this one of the religeon’s earliest locations. Saranth is also known as Mrigadava, Migadāya, Rishipattana and Isipatana in ancient and modern tongues. The site is still undergoing development and excavation. Women workers are visible restoring and cleaning the older parts of the site, whilst cut grass is the norm. It is a place of peace, a total constrast to Varanasi’s chaos.
