Abingdon, England - 4 December Abingdon claims to be the oldest town in England. If you walk past its medieval bridge early on a fine summer morning, this is the scene that will greet you. The view is dominated by Abingdon's medieval St Helen's Church, and its adjacent St Helens Wharf. And lots of pleasure boats, moored and cruising the river. In fact, this whole area is beloved of boat folk, walkers, dogs and people who just like lounging around! But today it's so early - and the weather so cold, frosty and misty - that it's totally deserted.
