Allendale, UK. 1st January 2014. Every New Year's Eve men in the Northumberland village of Allendale known as Guisers don fancy dress and carry half barrels of burning tar in a procession round the village. The procession ends at the village square just before midnight at which point they throw the burning barrels onto a bonfire to welcome in the new year.
