An 1879 engraving of Pope Marcellinus who was pontiff from AD296-AD304. He was the 29th pope. According to legend he was martyred by beheading, though the official sources do not list him as a martyr. This is possibly due to the accusation that he recanted his faith during the persecutions of christians led by Emperor Diocletian.
