Ancient Greek coins, 19th-century illustration. At centre is a tetradrachm coin, an Ancient Greek coin (usually silver) that was equivalent to four drachmae. The other two are decadrachm coins, worth ten drachmae. The coins are from Syracuse (top), Smyrna (bottom), and Akragas (bottom). Syracuse and Akragas (now called Agrigento) were Greek cities in what is now Sicily. Smyrna was a Greek city in Anatolia (what is now Turkey). Artwork from volume 2 (1875) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
