Wheeldale is a long stretch of ancient road, possibly Roman, looked after by English Heritage. It is set amid the wild and beautiful North York Moors. There are many ancient standing stones used as boundary markers along its route. The Wheeldale Beck crosses the road at Wheeldale Gill.
