RACCOON From the standpoint of number of furs taken, the raccoon leads among the fur-bearers. During 1944-45, 14, 389 raccoon were reported taken in Florida. In 1945-46 12, 858 raccoon were taken. Reports indicate that raccoon are very numerous in Florida. OPOSSUM The opossum is next in rank. In 1944-45, 4, 512 opossum were reported trapped, but in 1945-46 this number dropped to 1, 004. The opossum was declared to be a predator and a bounty of 50c was paid for each one killed. In this manner :^2, 846 were killed. The population, however, still remains high. 32, 346 Killed During 1945-46.
