Areolar connective tissue, light micrograph. This is the most abundant connective tissue in the human body. It comprises elastin fibres (thin dark lines) and collagen fibres (thicker pink lines). Numerous cells are seen in the matrix of the tissue here, with rounded dark purple nuclei. Areolar tissue is found beneath the skin and it also links organs and other tissues.
