Artworks created by children with mental and intellectual disabilities as a part of a charity project titled "Enlighten Life with Art" initiated by Shanghai-based non-profit organization World of Art Brut Culture (WABC) are on display at a studio in Chengdu city, southwest China's Sichuan province, 29 August 2017. Colorful pictures created by children with mental and intellectual disabilities have been trending on Chinese social media, while netizens can buy the artwork for 1 RMB ($0.15) to support the young artists. The pictures are part of a charity project titled "Enlighten Life with Art, " which was initiated by World of Art Brut Culture (WABC), a Shanghai-based non-profit organization. The project aims to help children with disabilities, including brain paralysis and infantile autism, offering them art training and education. Netizens can buy the pictures in their WeChat Moments news feed. All proceeds go to the online charity platform gongyi.qq.com. As of press time, the project has received 15 million RMB. "The charity project will be initiated in 30 cities nationwide in 2018, while the money we have collected will be used to support the project. Currently, we can offer art training to around 1, 000 children, and the number will reach 5, 000 to 8, 000 in 2018, " Miao Shiming, founder of World of Art Brut Culture, the NGO that is leading the project, told Thepaper.cn. According to Miao, the money will be used to hire art teachers, buy supplies, and rent facilities. For each city that joins the project, the annual expense is around a half to 1 million RMB. "The purpose of this project is not to sell pictures, but to help these children realize their value and feel needed by society, " Miao added.
