Bakery "Himschoot" is located on the Groentenmarkt in Ghent in a late medieval building that was called "De Croone". Since then, bread has been produced and sold at that location. During the First World War bread was baked by baker Himschoot who made such strong bread that on the one hand it had a high nutritional value and on the other hand remained fresh for a long time. This traditional bread was quickly tasted by the Gentenaars and the concept of "bread from Himschoot" was born. Bakker Himschoot was succeeded by his apprentice servant, who left the bakery to his pupil, and so on, ... which resulted in the survival of the specific artisanal technique to make delicious and healthy bread, such as the present is still offered by us.
