Bean sprouts sold at a fresh food market are displayed in Shanghai, China, 06 May 2011. An investigation into poison bean sprouts, initiated in April by Chinas Ministry of Agriculture, has found that the sprouts have been sold in many Chinese cities including Shenyang, Jinan and Urumqi, according to a report from the National Business Daily on Wednesday. The toxic bean sprouts are soaked in illegal additives such as urea and enrofloxacin, which produce nitrite salts in the body and may cause cancer if ingested over an extended period.
