Beau Rivage Casino is pictured, Sept. 5, 2021, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Beau Rivage is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. The casino opened in 1999 and is the tallest building in Biloxi. At the time the Beau Rivage opened, it was the largest casino in the United States outside the state of Nevada. Biloxi is the home of Keesler Air Force Base and is a popular vacation destination due to its sandy beaches and numerous waterfront gambling casinos, which include Beau Rivage, Isle of Capri, and Grand Casino. Due to the proliferation of gambling, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is often called the "Poor Man's Riviera." Much of Biloxi's waterfront property along Scenic Highway 90 was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, Aug. 29, 2005, but as a result of revitalization efforts, recovery is now well underway. (Carmen K.
