Brest/Guipavas airfield, used as a base for Luftwaffe fighters, was attacked at Brest, France on June 24, 1943, by R.A.F. Mitchell bombers, escorted by fighters. In this photograph, taken from one of attacking bombers, approximately thirty bursts are seen, with a concentration (top left) almost smothering a hangar and its tarmac apron. One bomb has fallen on a runway – the broad strip running from middle left towards top centre – and two sticks each of eight bombs are bursting across the landing area.
