Before extension of the electrification from Walsall to Rugeley, local services via Hednesford to Birmingham were the preserve of Diesel Multiple Units like the Class 170 Turbostars, Built by Adtranz (at the former BREL works in Derby) later to become Bombardier and now Alstom the first of sub class 170/5 number 170501 in West Midlands Trains livery stands in the platform at Rugeley Trent Valley before its next turn to Birmingham New Street.
