RMPAAD26–Commode. Culture: German, Franconia. Dimensions: 32 1/2 x 50 x 25 1/4 in. (82.5 x 127 x 64.1cm). Date: ca. 1765. The undulating lines of the front and sides suggest that its creator had seen the swell-fronted painted or lacquered commodes made in Venice in the mid-eighteenth century. The carved motifs are thought to have been carried out in the studio of Ferdinand Tietz (1708-1777). He is known to have provided large stone figures for the gardens of Seehof Castle, whence came this piece. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
