Cabimas, Venezuela. 28th Dec, 2023. Fishing boats are seen on the shore of Lake Maracaibo at sunrise. After being exploited for intense oil extraction for decades, Lake Maracaibo has become heavily polluted due to the neglect and lack of maintainance of the old pipes and infrastructure. This has caused a severe decline in fish stock, with the appearance of bacterias and toxic algae on the water surface, damaging the lives of the people living on its shores who rely on fishing for a living.
