Captain John Paul Jones, Continential Navy, in painting by Cecilia Beaux, 1906. He served in the American navy from December 1775 until 1783, mostly raiding British merchant ships. His most famous battle was between the British ship, Serapis, captained by Captain Richard Pearson, and Jones' French built ship, Bonhomme Richard, on Sept. 23, 1779 (BSLOC 2019 3 160)
