Cartoon depicting the Hot Line between the President of the United States and the Premier of the USSR was designed to allow direct communication at a moment's notice. At its inauguration on 31 August 1963, it was hailed as a major telecommunications achievement. President John F. Kennedy is asking Nikita Khrushchev to halt the Soviet advance because the US cannot get their forces across the Atlantic because of fog. Nikita Khrushchev is saying certainly, but in the meantime we'll bomb your airfields in Germany. Dated 20th century
