Cave dwellings in Cat Valley in Cappadocia, region Anatolia, Turkey. The Cat Valley is one of the less known valleys of Cappadocia. It has a lot of cave dwellings and pigeon houses.

Three million years ago the nearby volcano Erciyes spit out ashes to form a layer of tuff. Rainwater eroded the tuff to strange forms. A lot of houses were carved into the soft tuff rock. Formerly the farmers carved Pigeon Houses into the stone to 'harvest' the dung (guano) once a year as fertilizer for their fields.
