Raffles Place is the center of the Financial District of Singapore and is located south of the mouth of the Singapore River. First planned and developed in the 1820s as Commercial Square, it was renamed Raffles Place in 1858 in honor of the country's founder. It is now the site of a number of major financial insitutions and features some of the tallest buildings & landmarks in the city state.
