Chinese author and writer Yu Hua attends a press conference for the 19th Taipei International Book Exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan, 8 February 2011. The 19th Taipei International Book Exhibition kicked off on Wednesday (9 February 2011), gathering 856 publishers and 450 writers to meet their readers. Yu Hua, a prominent and influential writer in the Chinese Mainland, has also been invited to introduce his new work China in Ten Words which uses ten local popular words, such as people, grassroots, leader, and the revolution, in an ironic portrayal of the rising giant. The process of writing this book is to record the trauma of the country, and as well as of myself, said Yu whose experiences of growing up during the Cultural Revolution deeply informs his work.
