Clevedon Road, Birmingham, May 17th 2024 - West Midlands Police have closed several roads in the Balsall Heath area of Birmingham after a police chase led to the fleeing driver of a Nissan Micra to crash into another vehicle. One male occupant of the Micra was seriously injured and taken to hospital under arrest. Two other men fled the scene, one was arrested a short time later and the other is outstanding. Officers flooded the area of Clevedon Road and Lincoln Street setting up a large cordon. A mens trainer and black jacket along with first aid could be seen on the road at a pedestrian crossing where the Nissan came to rest. Other police vehicles, including 2 under cover Audi estates were left in the cordon as investigations continued into whether police involvement caused the collision. A forensics photographer was spotted photographing the scene. WEST MIDLANDS POLICE STATEMENT: 'We’ve got road closures in place in Birmingham this afternoon following a serious collision following a police pursuit in Balsall Heath. 'A Nissan Micra was being pursued by officers after failing to stop a short time earlier when it collided with another vehicle on Clevedon Road at the junction with Lincoln Street just before 12.50pm. 'One man who had been in the Micra has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and is under arrest. 'A second man was also arrested at the scene, while officers are looking for a third suspect who is believed to have been in the car. 'Officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time, and motorists are urged to avoid the area as a large cordon is in place.
