Ekkeroy, Varanger, NorwayMore information:
The Kittiwake colony on Ekkeroy, a small island off the Varanger coast, is home to approximately 20, 000 pairs of this little gull. The male and female both contribute to the brooding and feeding of the chicks. In winter they live out at sea. Ekkeroy is one of the oldest fishing villages in Varangerfjorden in Finnmark county, Norway. Formerly an island (as indicated by 'oy' at the end of the name) it is now connected to the Varanger penisular by a narrow isthmus of land.
